What's YOUR carbon footprint?

The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) has designed a unique eco-friendly project which sees the carbon emissions from all DXpedition activities, as well as HQ administrative tasks, offset via a wide range of innovative stratagem, thus reducing the club’s carbon footprint.

(Please see http://www.delta-alfa.com/da-rc-projects-2/carbon-emission-offset-program/ )

Plans are also underway within DA-RC to introduce this same ecological awareness into everyday shack operations of members, in order to lessen the impact of our communications hobby and Club on the environment.

With this in mind, what is YOUR carbon footprint? And what are you doing to reduce it or become carbon neutral?

Any comments, anyone?

Trees

I just had a quick look at that info on the DA-RC website, Jeremy. Thanks for drawing attention to the issue.

As I see it, the most important part is actually captured on the image heading the DA-RC topic. Not sure if you are aware of it, but the amount of trees and associated bushland here in Australia for instance has been vastly reduced in the past 200 years or so, due to the misguided farming and other efforts of the past.

The early European and other settlers saw this country as they saw their European homelands, so land clearing was the first order of the day, leaving us with the consequences. A leisurely look at parts of our continent via Google earth shows how much clearing has taken place.

What do trees do of course? They convert carbon dioxide back to oxygen! What do trees consist of? Carbon of course and that makes them wonderful carbon storers. I also claim that trees attract rain!

Tell the kids to re-plant those trees NOW! And keep the trees away from the greedy capitalists!

.....now, where's the solar panel shop.

Check out this link Geoff, it is most applicable to the carbon offset program in Australia, and I totally agree with your synopsis. We should all take a stand and help to replant trees in our world, but most importantly in the deforested areas of your country which have been decimated by your annual wildfires.
We are starting a drive to donate to some such project by our DA-RC members to offset the emissions caused by our dxpeditions, and the reforestation of downunder would be a great beginning, What do you think
